Mission Statement

The Mission of the Broome County District Attorney’s Office is to make Broome County a safer place to live by aggressively, effectively, and fairly prosecuting criminal activity, guided by principled professionalism, using compassion when called for, punishment as necessary, and justice always.


Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti 

F. Paul Battisti was sworn in as Broome County District Attorney on January 1, 2024.

Prior to his November 2023 election to the position, Paul served as a successful private practice attorney with a focus on criminal defense work and representing Law Enforcement agencies. Over nearly two decades as an attorney, he handled thousands of cases in Federal, State, County and Municipal courtrooms across New York.

Beyond his professional qualifications, Paul has given back by volunteering his time as a youth and high school sports coach and as a board member of the Twin Tiers Honor Flight, Police Athletic League, Addiction Center of Broome County, Broome County Criminal Justice Advisory Board, Broome County Treatment Court Team, Broome County Bar Association (Past President) and Broome County Library Foundation, among others.

Paul is a graduate of Seton Catholic Central High School, Siena College and Thomas Jefferson School of Law School. He was born and raised in Broome County and lives with his wife, Christine, and their five children in Kirkwood.


Answering a Traffic Ticket

If you receive a traffic ticket in Broome County, you must first follow the instructions printed on your ticket, including entering a plea with the court listed on the ticket. Once you have entered your plea, you may be eligible to resolve your ticket without having to appear in court.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office offers two options to handle traffic tickets outside of court. To be considered, you must submit your request at least two weeks before your scheduled trial date. You will need a copy of your ticket or trial notice. If you do not have one, please contact the appropriate court directly.

Requests submitted within two weeks of the trial date may be denied, and you will be required to appear in court.

Traffic Tickets Options

*Note: If you have a Misdemeanor, you MUST appear for the arraignment. While appearing you can request to speak to an ADA for your settlement options.

The Broome County District Attorney’s Office offers an option for handling your traffic ticket(s) without the need to appear in court. It has to be used AT LEAST TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR TRIAL DATE. You will need a copy of your ticket(s) or trial notice to apply, if you do not have a copy then you must contact the court. If you apply later than two weeks prior to your trial date, your request will likely be denied, and you will have to attend your trial.

Traffic Diversion Program

If you qualify for the Broome County Traffic Diversion Program, successful completion will result in dismissal of your traffic ticket(s) and no points added to your driver’s license.

There is a non-refundable program fee ranging from $200 to $400 per infraction, depending on the severity of the violation(s).

Eligibility Criteria

You may be eligible if:

  • Your speeding offense was 30 MPH or less over the posted limit.
  • You have a moving or equipment violation, EXCLUDING:
    • Misdemeanors
    • Operating an uninsured vehicle (VTL 319.1)
    • Failing to stop for a school bus (VTL 1174)
    • Speeding in a school zone (VTL 1180-c)
    • Speeding in a construction zone (VTL 1180-f)
    • Any offense involving impairment (alcohol/drugs)
  • Cell phone violations are eligible.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS – READ CAREFULLY

To be considered for the Traffic Diversion Program, you MUST complete all four (4) of the following requirements:

  1. Enter a plea with the Court listed on the ticket
  2. Upload a copy of your traffic ticket(s)
  3. Upload a copy of your driving abstract (must be recent and obtained from the DMV)
  4. Upload a copy of your driver’s license (front side, legible)

IMPORTANT:
APPLICATIONS MISSING ANY OF THESE DOCUMENTS WILL BE DENIED.
Incomplete submissions will not be processed.

Grand Jury Information

If you have been selected for Grand Jury for the term beginning on April 29, 2025, please note the following reporting times:

Monday, May 5th- No presentations

Tuesday, May 6th- 10am- 4pm

Thursday, May 8th- 9am-4pm

**Please remember to check this daily after 5:00 PM for any changes.  Last minute changes do happen and phone calls will be made if necessary.**

The reporting days for the Term are usually on Tuesday and Thursday.  

The following dates of April 29, May 1, 5, 6, 8, 19, 20 and 22nd are the reporting days for this Term.

Please note the following:

Grand Jury is held on the 4th Floor of the George Harvey Justice Building located at 45 Hawley Street in Binghamton.
Grand Jury reporting days can be any day of the week and are usually no more than 3 days during a particular week.
If you need to call in an absence, have an emergency that prevents you from reporting or are running late, please contact the DA’s office at (607) 778-2425 as soon as possible on the day of reporting.
Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow for time to go through security upon entering the building. Parking is available and encouraged at metered parking around our building.
There is a phone app called “Flowbird” that will allow you to pay online and add time as needed for the day. Lunch is a one-hour break approximately from 12 PM to 1 PM. There are several restaurants within walking distance if you choose. Jurors are welcome to remain in the Grand Jury Suite during their lunch break.
