County Executive

Jason T. Garnar was elected as Broome County’s 9th County Executive in November of 2016. He was re-elected in 2020 and became the county's first 3 term county executive after he won his re-election in 2024. For the last eight years, Jason has worked every day to improve our community, making Broome County more affordable for taxpayers, encouraging business development, supporting law enforcement and first responders, and focusing on quality-of-life issues.

Under his leadership, Jason’s responsible budgets have reduced the Broome County property tax rate by over 20%. He achieved a perfect financial score from the NY State Comptroller, upgraded the county bond rating, eliminated short term debt, and increased the county’s financial reserves.

Jason has worked to eliminate eyesores in Broome County and bring new life in their place with new businesses and housing projects. He’s worked to reduce the unemployment rate with big economic development projects such as the Oakdale Commons redevelopment, DICK’s Sporting Goods Distribution Center in Conklin, the Binghamton University Pharmacy and Nursing Schools in Johnson City and most recently the revitalization of the former EJ Victory Building. Over 1,000 housing units have been created since he took office, and Jason has implemented a number of new cutting-edge job programs and built a new workforce development center in order to fill the thousands of open jobs in Broome County.

Jason worked with state and local leaders to bring life-saving drug treatment services to Broome County at the former Broome Developmental Center, a huge step in helping fight the opioid epidemic, and secured millions in opioid settlement funding for the community. Jason was also instrumental in building the first county-wide emergency communications network, connecting over 50 agencies. He is a strong supporter of law enforcement and has worked to increase road patrol positions since he became county executive.

Jason has three sons Nolan, Miles, and Ben. He is a proud graduate of SUNY Broome Community College and Binghamton University.
