Bridge Rehabilitation on CR 20 in Kirkwood Set to Begin April 2026

(TOWN OF KIRKWOOD, NY) – The Broome County Department of Public Works has the final construction timeline for the rehabilitation of three county-owned bridges along County Route 20 in the Town of Kirkwood.

The three bridges to be rehabilitated are:

  1. CR 20 over Susquehanna River/ Norfolk Southern Railroad (BIN 3349250)
  2. CR 20 over NYS&W Railroad (BIN 3349370) 
  3. CR 20 over Main Street (Kirkwood) (BIN 3349360)

Construction is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026, and to be completed in the fall of 2026. Single-lane closures will occur intermittently from April 1 through June 1, 2026, and after September 1, 2026, until construction is completed.

The bridges will be completely closed to traffic from June 1 through September 1, 2026, with detours in place during that time. 

Businesses, schools, and municipalities are encouraged to plan accordingly.
