Q. What is Healthy Broome?

  1. Healthy Broome is a no-cost community health event hosted through the U.S. Department of Defense’s Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program. It brings military medical teams to Broome County to provide a variety of health services.

Q. What services will be offered?

  1. Medical, dental, optometry, and veterinary services; Please visit the IRT Home page for a full list.

Q. Who can receive services?

  1. All services are open to the public; No insurance or payment is required. 

Q. Do I need an appointment?

  1. No; Services are provided on a walk-in basis and are first-come, first-served each day. Please plan to arrive early as daily capacity is limited.

Q. What are the hours?

A. Registration opens at 8 a.m. Services begin at 9 a.m. and end by 5 p.m. Each service can see a limited number of patients each day, which may result in that service being closed before 5 p.m. Updates will be posted daily to Facebook (@HealthyBroomeIRT) and Instagram (@healthybroome).

Q. How do I get there if I don't have transportation?

A. BC Transit will be offering free rides for anyone going to Healthy Broome. Just tell the bus driver you're headed to Healthy Broome at SUNY Broome and you won't be charged a fare.

Q. What should I bring with me?

  1. Bring any medical history or records you can provide, including a list of current prescriptions. We also recommend bringing water and snacks, as food and beverages will not be available on site.

Q. What types of pets are eligible for veterinary services?

  1. Dogs and cats only; Must be on a leash or in a carrier.

Important: Due to a high interest in veterinary services, the spay/neuter service coordinated by the Broome County Humane Society is now full and no longer accepting applications. Surgeries will be scheduled from the pool of accepted applications.

Q. Is the site ADA accessible?

  1. Yes; SUNY Broome’s campus is ADA-compliant.

Q. Will follow-up care be provided after the event?

  1. Follow-up services are not provided as part of the mission. However, local health resources will be on site for individuals who may need additional care.

Q. Is emergency care available at this event?

  1. No; Healthy Broome does not provide emergency or urgent care services; If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go directly to the nearest emergency room.
